Larry's Music and Sound offers all types of lessons including guitar, bass, piano, voice, drums, and violin. Lessons are normally 30 minutes per week and are $80 per month (depending on the instructor). If you're wanting to become a rock legend or just want to brush up on some old skills uncle John taught you when you were eight, we've got you covered! Derek Sanders

(Guitar, Bass, Ukulele)

Beginning, Intermediate & Advanced Levels.  Derek is a master of sweep arpeggios and controlled speed.  Influences include Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, and Yngwie Malmsteen.  If you want to learn from a gifted shredder, Derek is your man! 

Jim Ashton

(Guitar, Banjo Pedalsteel)

On a live music stage most weekends sits a man behind a mechanical marvel of wood, levers, rods, pedals and strings. Gliding a steel bar with one hand and plucking the strings with the other he cajoles a most unique sound, almost effortlessly it seems, in time with the other musicians. The man at the helm of this fantastic instrument, the pedal steel guitar, is North Carolina musician Jim Ashton.

Laura Greene

(Piano, Violin, Voice, Flute, Ukulele)

Laura has over 20 years of experience performing and teaching. She studied piano, flute, guitar, and percussion at Lenoir-Rhyne University and graduated with a degree in music in December of 2007. Laura is also a youth music director at her church and is fluent in music styles ranging from classical to contemporary.

Jaret Carter


Jaret began his musical journey around age eight. He began with acoustic guitar but soon took up the electric and began playing in local groups in North Carolina like Phoenix and The South City Band which played many dates with fiddle Legend, Jim Buchanan. {Fiddle player for traditional country stars Mel Tillis and George Jones.}  Jaret plays various instruments including : Acoustic and electric guitars 6 and 12 string,  bottleneck slide guitar, mandolin, resophonic guitar/Dobro, Weissenborn, electric bass and lap steel. 

Rob Walmsley


Rob graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music, with a concentration in classical piano and jazz guitar, and has been teaching ever since. He has also played music actively in many local bands with style ranging form Jazz to Blues to Rock and continues to do so.

Alan Mearns

(Guitar, Voice)

Alan is a native of Belfast Northern Ireland, switched from the violin to the Guitar at age ten upon watching an older friend play “Johnny Be Good”. He has not looked back since. Entering University with no formal training, he was the first guitarist to ever win the coveted Fletcher Scholarship, the only full ride scholarship available at ASU School of Music. Under the tutelage of Dr Douglas James, he went on to become a prize-winning classical guitarist, earning his Masters Degree in music performance with the world renowned virtuoso Dr Stanley Yates.
